MIME GAMES

SAMPLE GAME: EXPERT OLYMPICS Drama Game 7 sample

Miming is such an important part of drama and games are one of the best ways to help students improve these skills. For younger students mime is always safer and easier than having to think of words to say.

Expert Olympics is the sample game and anything goes with this one! Other mime games included in the Top 50 Drama Games Unpacked book are the classic What Are You Doing? along with Pass The Present, Double Glazed Windows and Hands/ Feet Alone.

EXPERT OLYMPICS

BASIC DESCRIPTION

Two or three students are on stage, seated or standing, as if ready to run a sports interview. One player is the Sports reporter, the other one or two are the experts. The sport is not a real one, but an odd creation, which can be made up by those on stage, given by the audience before they start, or offered by the teacher. The reporter asks them questions about their sport and training they do for it etc. They then get the experts to demonstrate what they are experts at, as if we are watching footage. After two or three minutes, change the players and the sport.

EXTENSION

Make it even more interesting once they have the hang of it. The reporter controls the action, so they can call fast forward, rewind, instant replay and slow motion. This is often hilarious but younger students find it pretty hard to do.

HELPFUL HINTS

The more bizarre the sport, usually the more creative the players become. Make sure the sport is something that is active and can have an element of competition.

LIST OF IDEAS

Several have been listed here, you may wish to write these up as options and then get students to suggest several others to add to the list. They usually come up with very imaginative ones.
